Helderledge is located 13 miles west of Albany, New York. Since our beginning 26 years ago, the nursery has been owned and operated by Paul and Mardell Steinkamp, specialists in horticulture and landscape architecture.

The nursery is nestled in an old apple orchard with the magnificent backdrop of the Helderbergs. It is a beautiful spot in all seasons. Every spring comes to life with the sweet fragrance of apple blossoms. In summer, you can sit and listen to the fountains. And, with fall, the mountain is clothed in the oranges and reds of the maples, the yellows of the poplar and willows and the browns of the oaks. Always the top of the escarpment is edged with a ribbon of gray native limestone, highlighted with a tracery of trees.

We specialize in herbaceous perennials hardy to U.S. horticultural zone 5, and display many in our gardens at the nursery. We hope you'll visit our little oasis.

While we are busy with the production of ornamental plants, we never lose interest in the subject of the garden as a space for people, as a sculpture of light and shadow, of patterns on the ground and as a foil for the sky. The space is defined by walls, ground and sky with assistance of plants, architecture, pavements, lawn and the ever-changing canopy above.

We design and install garden spaces and are available to consult on site. Gardens, after all, are the artifacts of culture and time. We as designers, attempt to create a new style by borrowing fundamentals and details from gardens of the past.

the daughters and the staff
